The muses may have looked more like a light switch rather than beautiful ancient Greek goddesses.

Although dimmable LED indoor lighting doesn't posess any supernatural powers, a recent set of studies showed that it does have the capacity to inspire creativity. According to Medical Daily, German researchers found that dimming the lights is one way to prime the brain with darkness for creativity at work, in an art studio or at your home writing desk.

University libraries are filled with students hunkered over dimly-lit work, yet with a lighting redesign, those dark spaces may become sources of inspiration.

Commercial lighting design and education go hand in hand and are likewise a major focus for the lighting industry. With the right amount of light, students can be more attentive, have better concentration and get more work done. Conversely, studies have shown that insufficient lighting can lead to less student engagement – which means more spit wads to clean up later.
